Pankaj Fabricators to Take Transformer Tank Capacity to 100 MVA as Second Jaipur Unit Comes Online in 2027

The 48-year-old Jaipur works will extend its transformer tank range from 20 MVA to 100 MVA when a second unit opens in 2027.

If somebody tells you a 1.5 kilowatt laser cuts 25 millimetre plate, ask them for the cut sample. Purchase engineers remember which of their vendors told them the truth about a tolerance.”

JAIPUR, RAJASTHAN, INDIA, September 18, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ -- Pankaj Fabricators, a metal fabrication works that has operated from Jaipur's VKI Area since 1978, will extend its transformer tank range from 20 MVA to 100 MVA when a second manufacturing unit enters production in 2027.

The expansion is aimed squarely at India's transformer OEMs. Tank fabrication is one of the quieter bottlenecks in the country's power equipment supply chain: an OEM that wins a large order often finds its own fabrication shop is the constraint, and the vendors capable of taking the overflow at power-transformer sizes are few. From 2027, Pankaj Fabricators will be able to take tanks across the distribution and power range, built to the customer's own general arrangement drawing, leakage tested, shot blasted to Sa 2.5 and finished in epoxy paint.

Alongside tanks, the works runs a fiber laser cutting job shop that has become a second business in its own right, supplying panel builders, machine builders and equipment manufacturers with finished parts rather than bare blanks.

Publishing the limits, not just the capabilities

The company is doing something unusual for the sector: publishing exactly what its machines will and will not do.

Its fiber laser is 1500 W, with a 3000 x 1500 mm bed. It cuts mild steel from 0.8 to 8 mm in everyday production and 10 mm at maximum; stainless steel 304 and 316 from 0.8 to 4 mm, 5 mm at maximum; and aluminium from 1 to 3 mm, 4 mm at maximum. Plate from 10 to 25 mm goes on a 200 A CNC plasma, which produces a plasma edge and not a laser edge. Held tolerances are published in the same way: plus or minus 0.10 mm up to 3 mm, 0.15 mm from 3 to 6 mm and 0.20 mm above 6 mm.

"Our industry has a habit of quoting the number the buyer wants to hear," said Mukund Totla of Pankaj Fabricators. "If somebody tells you a 1.5 kilowatt laser cuts 25 millimetre plate, ask them for the cut sample. We would rather lose the enquiry at the quotation stage than lose the customer at the inspection stage. Purchase engineers remember which of their vendors told them the truth about a tolerance."

The same approach governs how the company describes its scale. The works accepts orders of up to 500 tonnes a month across its own facilities and partner units, and any work placed with a partner unit is disclosed to the customer before the order is confirmed.

A free tool for anyone sending drawings out for cutting

The company has also made its internal drawing conversion tool public at no charge. Most fabrication enquiries in India still arrive as a scanned print, a PDF or a phone photograph of a drawing, and turning those into a cut-ready file is unpaid work that slows every quotation down.

The tool takes a PDF, a scan or a photograph, runs it through fourteen manufacturability checks, and returns a cutting DXF, a plan DXF and a dimensioned PDF. It is free to use and carries no obligation to place the work with Pankaj Fabricators. Engineers and buyers can use it at dxf.pankajfabricators.com.

Under one roof the works also runs press brakes to 3200 x 10 mm, a 3050 x 10 mm hydraulic shear, nine power presses from 10 to 100 tonnes, thirty-five welding sets, two EOT cranes, shot blasting and a paint line, so a cut blank can leave as a finished, painted assembly with one supplier owning the tolerance stack.
